To achieve the nuance of Madoka's black hair, I took some liberties while remaining true to the dark navy color that was specified for the anime series, under an overarching sepia tone.
The illustration itself is from a long time ago, but this Madoka has the meaningful expression I still aim to achieve even today.

On the Art Print, from EDITION88
We first set the skin tone, then moved on to hair color and her dress. Both the dark brownish color of the dress and the light beige-brown in the background tended to be influenced by the light source, so getting these colors correctly was also very time-consuming. The original has the emboss of Arche, the paper manufacturer, so we have the emboss in the art print as well.
