Range Murata
Range Murata (born October 2, 1968, in Osaka, Japan) is an illustrator and designer, best known for character design work on the anime series Last Exile and Blue Submarine No. 6.
He started his career in 1993 doing character illustrations for the fighting game Power Instinct (Gouketsuji Ichizoku).
In 1994, he started to illustrate for Kairaku Ten and Ultra Jump magazines.
In 1996, he left a video game company to become a freelancer and published his first art book, Like a balance life.
In 1999, he published "FLAT", a full-color comic magazine planned and edited by himself, which won the Japan Book Publishers Association President's Award (comic category) at the 34th Book Design and Binding Contest Exhibition.
He designed characters for OVA " Blue Submarine No. 6", the TV animation "Last Exile", and the game "Spy Fiction".
In 2003, he published his second book "Futurhythm", which won the Japan Book Publishers Association Chairman's Award at the 38th Book Binding Contest Exhibition.
In 2006, he received the 37th Seiun Award in the art category.
In 2013, he became a faculty member of the Character Design Course in the Faculty of Manga at Kyoto Seika University.
He currently publishes self-published art books (doujinshi) at Comic Market and other events. (Circle name: PASTA'S ESTAB.)
