On the Original, from Akemi Takada
I first masked the leaves in the background with a few layers, then painted over them.
Where there was double masking, the whole section was first painted in, then a layer of masking was removed so shadows could be added. The figure and skin were protected by masking tape or paper when the leaves were painted. The island out on the sea was treated similarly. It was first masked, then I colored it using pastels after removing the masking.

Green ink helped us capture the dazzling backdrop. We also focused on replicating the skin tone that was in the original.
